Obsessed? How many days past ovulation (DPO) can you take a pregnancy test?
Dr. Lynette Weiss, MD writes:

They say waiting is always the hardest part and it's no different when it comes to waiting after ovulation to take a pregnant test. So how many days past ovulation can you take a pregnancy test and get a positive result?
So you and your partner have been actively trying to conceive and now you’re stuck in that oh-so-difficult (DPO) days past ovulation stage. Receive 20 Free Pregnancy Tests The anticipation is starting to get to you and you’re just dying to take a pregnancy test, but how many days past ovulation can you test and realistically expect to get a reliable pregnancy test result?
Well, not too long ago, you had to wait before confirming a positive pregnancy with a visit to your doctor. Then, along came the invention of the home pregnancy test, and women everywhere could test to their heart’s content. Although the first home pregnancy tests were not entirely accurate, and you had to wait until 2-4 weeks past your date of ovulation to even test, today’s home pregnancy tests are much more advanced.
Of course, with pregnancy tests allowing you to find out results earlier and earlier, the natural question becomes, how soon can I get a positive pregnancy test? Below is the approximate statistical data for your chances of getting a positive pregnancy test result using a typical store bought pregnancy test (hpt) with an accuracy of 25mIU.
With so many different brands of pregnancy tests on the market, it helps to take a look at some of the more common home pregnancy test brands to find out what they recommend and what their accuracy is.
Clearblue Easy Digital Pregnancy Test: (3 pack, cost $16.39) - Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Tests have a few nice features that some of the others don’t have. For one, there is a digital readout, so no more wondering if your mind is playing tricks on you and whether that’s really a faint line or not. The readout is clear and concise, and even has a handy conception date indicator. Results are 99% accurate from the day your period is due, and you can test up to five days early.
First Response Pregnancy Test: (3 pack, cost $12.98) - First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test can detect the pregnancy hormone 6 days before your period is due. Two lines mean you’re pregnant, and one line means you’re not. While many women swear by them, the reality is, there is almost always a bargain brand on the same shelf that is statistically, nearly identical in quality and sensitivity. What’s undeniable is that through savvy marketing, First Response has done a good job effectively positioning itself as having the most accurate pregnancy tests on the market with many consumers.
Clearblue Easy Pregnancy Test: (3 pack, cost $13.29) - This claims to be the easiest pregnancy test on the market. There is a wide tip, a sharper display, and an ergonomic shape (pretty much identical to First Response in that regard). Results are 99% accurate from the day your period is due and you can get results up to 5 days before your period is due.
Equate Pregnancy Test: (1 pack, cost $3.98) - Equate is Walmart’s inexpensive, private label brand of pregnancy test. You can test the day after your period is due, and with a clear plus or minus find out if you’re pregnant within 60 seconds. Equate claims to be 99% accurate. Although some women have mentioned occasionally getting an invalid result, others claim to have received earlier and more accurate results than with First Response. Your mileage may vary, but based on the price, you can’t go wrong.
As you can see, today’s pregnancy tests are not only more accurate, but you can now test much sooner than before. When wondering how many days past ovulation can you test, time matters. The sooner you can get the results the better, and with home pregnancy tests there is no need to wait. The earlier you find out that you are pregnant, the earlier you can begin pre-natal care. Pre-natal care is vital to the health of both mother and child, and it’s never too early to start.

Late ovulation also results in a a higher risk of miscarriage, as the older egg may be defective, and the aging corpus luteum may not be able to produce enough progesterone, which is the hormone that prepares your uterus for pregnancy, and prevents you from getting your period.
