There are several ways to guess the sex of your baby, ranging from those that are considered little more than “old wives tales” to those that are fairly accurate and endorsed by doctors. If you’re trying to figure out whether to buy pink or blue, the following are a few ideas that may help you determine your baby’s gender.
Boy or Girl #1: Morning Sickness - If you had morning sickness early in your pregnancy, you are more likely to have a girl.
Boy or Girl #2: Heart Rate - Boys have slower heart rates, below 140 beats per minute.
Boy or Girl #3: Baby Weight - If you are carrying the majority of the baby weight low and in front, like a basketball, you are probably having a boy. If you are having a girl, you will gain more weight on your hips and rear and your belly will look like a watermelon.
Boy or Girl #4: Breast Changes - The areolas of your nipples will get darker if you are carrying a boy, and your left breast will be larger than the right and both breasts will grow considerably if you have a girl.
Boy or Girl #5: Cravings - Cravings for salty or sour foods and meats and cheese indicate a boy, while cravings for sweets, fruit, and orange juice indicate a girl.
Boy or Girl #6: Hair Changes - If you suddenly develop noticeably red highlights in your hair, you are having a girl. If the hair on your legs grows faster than normal, you are having a boy.
Boy or Girl #7: Skin Changes - Dry hands and cold feet are indicators that you are having a boy, while pimples indicate a girl..
Boy or Girl #8: Pillows - If you sleep with your pillow facing north, you are having a boy, while a south facing pillow means you will be having a girl.
Boy or Girl #9: Wedding Ring or Needle Trick - When you hang your wedding ring or a needle on a string over your belly, you can guess the sex of your baby. Movement in circles indicates a boy, while back and forth movement indicates a girl.
Boy or Girl #10: Conception Date - Add your age to the number of the month in which you conceived to determine if it is a boy or girl. Even numbers will be a boy, odd numbers will be a girl.
While there are a few medically sound ways to guess the sex of your baby, these methods can add to the fun of guessing whether you have a boy or girl. Many women who don’t find out from the doctor whether they have a boy or girl turn these tricks into baby shower games. No matter how you guess the sex of your baby, just be sure that you have a few baby clothes in neutral colors, just in case!
